Abstract from China wind power News network

The National Standardization Committee has recently issued four national standards for "special lubricants for wind turbines", which will be formally implemented from October 1 this year. This is the first time that China has formulated national standards in this field, which will play a positive role in the healthy development of the domestic wind power equipment industry.

In the past 10 years, under the strong promotion of national policies, the wind power industry has flourished. China has cultivated a group of equipment manufacturing enterprises with independent intellectual property rights and core technologies, and the localization rate of wind power equipment has reached over 90%.

Due to the fact that most wind turbines are located in remote areas in the wild and are affected by external conditions such as extreme heat, cold, dust, and salt alkali corrosion, lubrication is crucial for the normal operation of mechanical components and the extension of equipment life. Previously, China lacked relevant standards in the field of wind power equipment lubrication, resulting in low manufacturing barriers, chaotic brands, and uneven product quality for wind power specialized lubricants. In the manufacturing and operation of wind power equipment, it is also rare for professionals who understand lubrication. Improper use of lubrication products has caused significant losses and troubles to the industry.

These four national standards were initiated by Anshan Haihua Grease Chemistry Co., Ltd., the leading enterprise in the field of special lubrication in China. Approved by the Secretariat of the Petrochemical Standards Committee of the National Standards Commission in 2012, they were jointly formulated by the company, together with Sinopec Lubricant Branch, China Water Resources and Power Materials Co., Ltd., PetroChina Lubricant Branch, and the Wind Energy Technology Research Institute of Shenyang University of Technology. In March of this year, the four standards were approved and released by the State Administration for Quality Supervision and the National Standards Commission, entering the announcement stage. This also marked the beginning of private enterprises leading the drafting of national standards in the petrochemical industry.

During the standard preparation process, Haihua Company invested tens of millions of yuan in research funds, purchased a large number of research and development equipment and experimental instruments, and continuously improved the core technology of wind power lubricants through thousands of experiments. At present, the high-performance domestic lubricants developed by this company have forced foreign brands to lower product prices and improve product performance. For example, the service life of a famous foreign brand of wind power lubrication products has increased from 5 years to 7 years, and the prices of several "Foreign branding" of wind power lubrication products have decreased by more than 40% in the past year.

Experts believe that as an emerging industry, the gradual formulation of relevant standards for wind power equipment will greatly increase the voice of Chinese enterprises in this field and the bargaining chip with foreign manufacturers. In addition, standards also have the role of guiding enterprises to improve quality. After China releases the lubrication standards for wind power equipment, grease companies will improve product quality based on the standards, and wind power users can also choose suitable products according to their own conditions to save costs.
