Abstract from China New Energy Network

With the support of the United Nations Environment Programme, the non-governmental organization "21st Century New Energy Policy Network" recently released a report titled "Global Future New Energy Report: A Great Debate on Achieving 100% New Energy Energy" at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Christina Lins, a spokesperson for the organization, said that more and more countries around the world are transitioning to new energy sources. Among them, China and the United States have seen the largest increase in investment in new energy sources and improving energy efficiency.

Lins pointed out that currently, fossil fuels account for 80% of the energy used globally, while new energy sources account for 20%. There is still a long way to go to achieve 100% full use of new energy sources. However, according to a survey and analysis conducted by the network on 114 well-known energy experts worldwide, over 70% of them believe that the global transition to 100% use of new energy is feasible and realistic, and experts from Europe and Australia have expressed the strongest support for this.

The consensus among experts is that new energy sources will dominate in the future. Large multinational corporations are increasingly choosing new energy sources; Many companies, regions, islands, and cities have set a goal of using 100% new energy sources. Nearly 70% of experts predict that the cost of new energy will continue to decline, and its price will be lower than all fossil fuels within 10 years. At present, in most OECD countries, wind and solar energy are actually competitive; Meanwhile, the experiences of China and Denmark indicate that promoting GDP growth without increasing energy consumption is feasible.

The report also identifies some challenges. For example, in some regions, due to the vested interests of the traditional energy industry, it is difficult to determine whether 100% new energy can be used by 2050; At the same time, most countries lack long-term policy certainty and a stable investment climate in energy efficiency and new energy sources.
