Morocco: Renewable energy accounted for 43% in 2020

    In order to deepen the implementation of the "Strategic Partnership" between China and Morocco and comprehensively expand production capacity cooperation in the field of renewable energy between the two countries, on January 14-21, 2017, our delegation went to the United Arab Emirates and Morocco to participate in the "China Morocco Renewable Energy Industry Seminar" organized by the Renewable Energy Professional Committee of the China Circular Economy Association in Casablanca, and also participated in the 7th International Renewable Energy Agency Member Conference in Abu Dhabi Activities such as the 10th Future Energy Summit.

    As a hub linking the three major markets of Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Morocco has obvious geographical advantages, a high degree of economic openness, and rich renewable energy resources. In order to solve the problem of high proportion of energy imports and insufficient security of supply, in recent years, the Moroccan government has vigorously promoted the development of renewable energy, planning to reach 43% of renewable energy in the energy production structure by 2020, and reach 52% in 2030. At the same time, it has continuously strengthened the interconnection of power grids with neighboring countries such as Spain and Algeria, and will further extend the connectivity and trade between the power grids of Mauritania.

    With the implementation of the "the Belt and Road" strategy, China''s cooperation with countries in the Middle East and North Africa in the field of energy, especially in the field of renewable energy, has been deepening and pragmatic. The cooperation between China and Morocco on renewable energy will also continue to be built and improved with the continuous construction of industrial cooperation bridges between the two countries.
